What is Twenty Seventeen Theme?

Twenty Seventeen Theme is a theme that was released by Automattic.com. Twenty Seventeen is the new default theme with WordPress 4.7 or is it.  As of this writing Twenty Sixteen is the default theme but Twenty Seventeen can be added on.

In your Dashboard –> Appearance –> Themes –> New, Twenty Seventeen is the first theme in the featured section.

Why Twenty Seventeen Theme?

The theme is a business-oriented theme, very different from the past themes that were blog-oriented.  Of course you can use this theme with blogs. I would say this is a great starter or landing page theme.

Twenty Seventeen theme is more involved than previous themes.  It will take more in set-up, but overall it will be worth it.  Please note more steps, not harder.  This is a very easy theme to work with and get up and running in no time.

Why Landing Pages?

Pages are anchors and a landing page is first place the audience goes to when they come to your website.  Landing page is the new cool term for First Page, Home Page, or Main Page.  Where the audience lands first.

Okay, most landing pages are one page websites, but they don’t have to be.

In Twenty Seventeen WordPress made the theme easy to use as a Landing Page.  As shown below, I will demonstrate how to make your main page a landing page.

Static Front Page

Appearance –> Customize –> Static Front Page

This is where you will click on the button for “A static page”. In the drop down menu for “Front Page”, choose your page you would like to display.

If you want more than one page displayed on the “Static Front Page”  or Landing Page, arrow back and click on “Theme Options”
